TWILIGHT’S LIST OF HERBAL REMEDIES

Recently my master has been experiencing some stomach pain and I’ve been very busy with gathering herbs for his teas. The Forest has been quite cold these past few weeks but thank Vesna the weather has been becoming more warmer!

So to celebrate the fact that I managed to stumble upon a small batch of snowdrops, I decided to share some of my master’s recipes!

1.Ivy Tea

Since it’s the season of colds and many of our dear faes are probably battling a nasty cough, master Yew has the perfect remedy which takes little time and only an ounce of will power. All you need for this tea is the following:

  • dried ivy leaves
  • boiling water (well of course)
  • honey

Take one teaspoon of dried ivy leaves and cover it with 250ml of boiling hot water (that’s approximately a full glass of water, but then again it depends on the glass), stir, cover and let it stand for 15 minutes. After that strain the leaves and throw them into the trash, but make sure you sweeten the liquid that’s left with honey to each individuals preferred liking. One should drink two or three cups of tea a day, until the cough stops.

But remember this tea is not recommended for children under the age of seven!

2. Hawthorn Tea

Ah yes, a tea perfect for high blood pressure and easing up the arteries. Ingredients which are needed for this brew are simple:

  • hawthorn
  • garlic
  • horsetail
  • mistletoe

To make this tea one must separate 25g of hawthorn, garlic, horsetail and mistletoe. From two tablespoons of this mixture the tea is made by adding three decilitres of boiling water, covering it and filtrating the mixture after two hours. The tea is to be drinked two times a day, before a meal. Preferably in the morning before breakfast and evening before dinner. But of course the mixture of 20g of hawthorn blossom and chamomile, olive leaf, mistletoe and garlic can also be used for these purposes.

3. Onion Tea

Another remedy for a cough, which is very effective, as well as given to children. Though the young ones from the Forest tend to avoid it at all cost…

All you need for this tea is simply one onion and some honey. And to make it you just have to boil the peel of the onion in hot water, decant it and pour the water into a cup. Add some honey to it to sweeten the taste, but be carefully, this tea tends to leave a strong taste in the mouth and most will refuse.

But as I said at the beginning, this is one of the most effective cough medicines based on herbal remedies.

4. Basil Tea

Basil tea should certainly be prepared for mothers who are nursing their newborns, because this tea stimulates milk production. There is only one ingredient: dried basil leaves and a simple recipe.

The dried leaves are poured over by boiling water and put aside to stand for ten minutes. This remedy can be consumed every day, but it’s recommended to stop after eight days and make a break of two weeks.

5. Three Tea Recipes for Insomnia!

A treat for the very end!

Master Yew is very known to have a serious case of insomnia and can stay up for a few days without a wink of sleep. So, one day he decided to visit the Forest witch (who is not a very friendly old hag might I add) and received a few pointers on how to battle his insomnia. And therefore he also got a few recipes for teas. His favourite beverage.

For the first drink you will need the following:

  • wild basil
  • honey
  • linden blossom
  • yarrow
  • wild boxwood (leaves only)

To prepare take a linden blossom; 2 tablespoons of wild basil; 3 tablespoons of yarrow and one tablespoon of the wild boxwood leaves. Mix it all well. After that pour three decilitres of boiling water over the mixture and leave it to stand 10-15 minutes. When you have drained the mixture add some honey to sweeten the taste and drink it three times a day before a meal, and one cup before going to bed.

For the second remedy you will need:

  • mint
  • valerian
  • lemon balm
  • mountain grass
  • marigold

Mix 20g of mint, lemon balm, mountain grass, marigold and valerian. Take three tablespoons from the mixture and place it into a teapot in which you will pour half a litre of boiling water over it and leave it covered for two hours. After the two hours you may pour yourself a cup in the morning and at night.

And finally the third tea requires the following ingredients:

  • valerian
  • mint
  • hop
  • lemon balm
  • honey

Preparing it is quite easy. You must take 30g of valerian, 40g of hop, 15g of mint and 15g of lemon balm. Mix them all up and take one tablespoon of the mixture and place it in the teapot in which you should pour two decilitres of boiling water over it and leave it for two hours. Sweeten it with honey to your liking and drink one cup before you head for bed.

I hope these remedies are helpful to the dear faes around the world!
If any of you have a remedy or two to share, be sure to leave them in the comments or just link your post to this one and I’m sure master Yew will read them.
Have a wonderful Sunday evening faes!
